A retweet by President Trump is being held up as yet another example of the bigotry and hatred he is accused of promoting throughout his presidency and run for president, reports Newsweek.
The retweet came after after “white power” and a swastika were spray painted on a Sikh temple in Sacramento County in California.
The president retweeted a doctored picture of Democratic leaders, Senator Chuck Schumer and Rep Nancy Pelosi wearing a turban and hijab while standing in front of the Iranian flag.
“With one retweet of a bigoted, doctored photo, Trump has put entire communities at risk nationwide,” CAIR Sacramento Valley/Central California Executive Director Basim Elkarra said.
“Muslims and Sikhs are already among the top three religious groups—along with the Jewish community—targeted in U.S. hate incidents. It is unacceptable for the nation’s top government official to espouse bigotry and hatred. We need to come together and say, ‘Enough is enough!'”
The White House defended Trump’s tweet.
“I think the president is making clear that the Democrats have been parroting Iranian talking points and almost taking the side of terrorists and those who are out to kill Americans,” White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said, according to the Muslim blog 5PillarsUK.com.
” I think the president was making a point that the Democrats hate him so much that they are willing to be on the side of countries and leadership of countries who want to kill Americans,” she continued.”
Trump has condemned both the media and Democrats for raising questions about whether he has been truthful about his rational for his fatal drone attack on Iranian Major General Qasem Soleiman earlier this month.
