Tony award winning playwright David Henry Hwang is recovering at his Brooklyn home after being stabbed in the neck, reports the New York Daily News.
The incident which happened Sunday near his home is being described by police as a random attack.
Authorities say an unknown attacker came up from behind Hwang as he was walking down the street and slashed him in the neck.
“Thanks to the excellent work of the doctors at Brooklyn Hospital and Mount Sinai, I’m now home and expected to make a full recovery,” said Hwang.
Hwang won the Tony for M Butterfly in 1988. A revised version of his play Chinglish is currently being staged by the East West Players in Los Angeles.
No description of his attacker has been released.
