Los Angeles County has launched a campaign seeking more foster parents from the Asian American community, reports KPCC.
County officials say there are 600 to 800 Asian foster children seeking homes every month. A severe lack of culturally appropriate foster parents makes matching these children difficult.
“You’re not necessarily talking about adopting a child,” said. Connie Chung Joe of Korean American Family Services. “You’re talking about bringing a child into your household where you can give love and support until they’re reunited with their family.”
The campaign started last year with ads targeting the Korean American community. This year the focus will be on recruiting Chinese American and Cambodian American foster parents.
