Tri Ta is getting a lot of attention from the Vietnamese American community. He’s the 1st elected Vietnamese American mayor in the country. He’ll run the Orange County city of Westminster, which has the largest concentration of Vietnamese Americans in the nation. His election is a sign of the growing maturity of the Vietnamese American community in the political process. “Given that they’re a refugee population who came here en masse 30 years ago, it’s pretty significant that they’ve been able to get involved in electoral politics in such a short period of time,” says UC Irvine Professor Linda Lo, who wrote “Mobilizing an Asian American Community.”
Can Vietnamese Am mobilize to elect another South East Asian Mayor, Governor, or to Congress?
