He sounds like an ordinary country singer. He sings with a thick Southern drawl and the rhythm of a 12 string guitar. But this country boy is different. Kareem Salama is Muslim American.
The Center for American Progress talked to Muslim American artists who are chasing their dreams on the entertainment stage while battling misconceptions and stereotypes of Muslim Americans. Many like Kareem have been successful doing it, both artistically and politically. They are balancing their role as artist and ambassador and making a name for themselves doing it.
“I am certain there are some people who can’t accept [me],” Salama said, adding, “But hopefully, even if they don’t like you as a person, they will like the music.”
