Chicago Tribune: Chef Training Program A Path to Jobs for Chinese Immigrants

restaurantThe Chef Training Program at the Chinese American Service League  in Chicago has a track record it can brag about.  Nearly seventy percent of its 1,400 graduates have found jobs within 6 months of graduation.

The program’s success comes from successful alumni who have returned to the training program to find good employees. The program offers translators to assist with training and English learning classes for its students.

“It’s very hard to be a new immigrant with a language barrier to start their career in America,” Ricky Lam, the program’s training manager told the Chicago Tribune. “(The program) needed to be very accessible and convenient for the community.” Several students talked about the importance of the program in the Chicago Tribune
