The U.S. Senate has diluted a military anti-hazing bill that Rep Judy Chu authored after the suicide death of her nephew, KPCC reported.
Lance Cpl. Harry Lew shot and killed himself in Afghanistan after hazing from his fellow marines. The compromise bill sent back by the Senate doesn’t require an independent study into military hazing that Chu had requested from the General Accountability Office. The bill also falls short of requiring a data base of military hazing incidents. Chu called for a data base broken out by race and gender.
