A suspect charged in the death of a woman pushed into an oncoming New York subway train reportedly told prosecutors she targeted her victim because she was Muslim or Hindu, reports the NY Times.
“I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims ever since 2001 when they put down the twin towers I’ve been beating them up.” prosecutors quoted Erika Menendez as saying.
Menendez is charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime.
According to prosecutors, Sunando Sen was pushed from behind and defenseless. Friends say Sen was born in India and raised Hindu.
