What more must Manny Pacquiao do to go down as one of the greatest boxers in history? He has won world championships in 8 different divisions and arguably has the most passionate fan following of any boxer still in the ring.
Yet a blog in the Bleacher Report by Alex Ballantine says Pacquiao must avenge his losses to Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley to assure the PacMan legacy remains in tact.
Sure, no one wants the sight of Pacquiao flat down on his face in the ring as the lasting image of the fighter. But whether he wins another bout or not, you can’t take away his world titles and the impact he has had on his country.
Pacquiao doesn’t need to prove anything. If he wanted to retire today, he has every right to do that. The man’s health should be the first consideration. Not some macho consideration or fear that his legacy will be damaged.
Criticize Pacquiao for staying past his prime if you want. But you can’t take away his legacy. That’s already been established.
