The first Asian American majority district in the United States may soon see two Asian American candidates facing off against each other, reports the NY Times.
Rep Mike Honda easily won re-election in November, but already there’s talk that the Japanese American could face a challenge from Ro Khanna, a lawyer and respected member of the increasingly politically powerful Indian American community.
Honda who has mentored many Indian Americans in politics and once helped Khanna raise money said the potential challenge didn’t bother him.
“Whites get challenged by whites — how’s that different?” Mr. Honda told the NY Times. “When a community gets more diverse, you’re going to run into that.”
More reaction about the potential challenge of Honda by Khanna can be found in the NY Times,
