Dozens of Chinatown tenants were left homeless after authorities ordered the evacuation of the top floor of a four story single room occupancy building, reported the NY Daily News.
Its unknown just when the tenants will be allowed back home. A similar closure five years ago lasted nine months.
The action came after authorities received complaints about unsafe living conditions.
“The situation is unclear,” an elderly tenant with the last name Wang said Thursday in Chinese. “I don’t know where I’m going to spend the night.”
