A conference today in Los Angeles will tackle head on the stereotypical images seen in the media faced by Asian Americans, reports KPCC.
“Beyond the Bad and the Ugly” is organized by Jeff Yang, a columnist for the Tao Jones column in the Wall Street Journal.
It will take place at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.
“We’re not saying erase all negative references,” Yang said to KPCC, “but there are plenty of places where you can play into race and make them human rather than just a two-dimensional character. And they work really well.”
You can see some of the racist portrayal Yang is talking about on KPCC.
