Around 30 students across the country exhibited their science projects at the third annual White House Science Fair on Monday, reported CNN-IBN Live.
Meghana Rao, 17, from Portland, Oregon, explained her charcoal project to President Obama.
“We’re so proud of you. Keep up the good work,” Obama said to her.
Rao also directs a student-run non-profit organization called Portland Junior Scientists (PJS). It brings high school students and underprivileged youths together through science experiments to encourage all to pursue higher education. She launched PJS in response to school budget cuts on science curricula
