The Association of Asian American Studies has unanimously passed a resolution calling for a boycott of Israeli Universities and academic institutions, reports Legal Insurrection.
The resolution read: “Whereas the Association for Asian American Studies seeks to foster scholarship that engages conditions of migration, displacement, colonialism, and racism, and the lives of people in zones of war and occupation… Be it resolved that the [AAAS] endorses and will honor the call of Palestinian civil society for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions.”
Past president Rajini Srikanth compared the resolution to the boycott of South Africa universities to protest apartheid.
But a blog in the Legal Insurrection condemned the action taken at the Association’s annual conference in Seattle last week.
“The efforts of some left-wing academics to demonize Israel never ends.” wrote William Jacobson.
“Groups like those willingly join with the worst Islamist and other elements who stand against academic, social and civil freedoms.”
