U-T San Diego: Hundreds Celebrate Japanese Culture in Vista

KimonoIt’s that time of year again for the Hanamatsuri Bazaar, a Japanese holiday that celebrates Buddha’s birth and the flowers of spring.

Hundreds of people packed the Vista Buddhist Temple in San Diego over the weekend to learn more about Japanese culture and religion, reported U-T San Diego.

“It’s nice for the legacy to continue,” said Janice Takimoto, an Orange County resident who performed on the shamisen, a three-stringed instrument similar to a banjo.

Highlights of the event included traditional Japanese food, musical performances, Japanese dancing, a kimono demonstration and more.
