Silicon India: Indian American Soldier Say She Faces Racial Slur and Harassment

CATEGORIES

010809-F-1644L-009An Indian born soldier serving in the United States army says she is subjected to anti-Muslim and racial jokes from her fellow soldiers on a regular basis, according to Silicon India.

Sgt 1st Class Naida Hosan is not Muslim, she is Catholic. Yet the harassment did not stop even after she legally changed her name to Naida Christian Nova to make sound more American.

Nova says her superiors at the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division based in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina have offered little support.

“My complaints fell on deaf ears every time,” said Nova, 41.

“Any time I would say something about it I was treated like I didn’t know what I was talking about or that I’m an idiot or that I was a Muslim sympathizer. It was just a very lonely feeling.”

Ft. Bragg officials had no comment on Nova’s complaint.
