Opening ticket sales for M Night’s Shyamalan’s After Earth indicate the director is headed for another flop at the box office, reports Alt Film Guide.
The sci-fi thriller starring Will Smith and his son Jaden had an opening day of under 10 million and is expected to reach ticket sales on its opening weekend of just 26-28 million.
It is likely to be behind last week’s number 1 movie, Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6, and quite possibly Now You See Me.
Shyamalan who directed the hit Sixth Sense has had a string of disappointing movies of late, so much so that his name is no longer prominently displayed in trailers and movie posters.
The big question now for Sony and Columbia is whether After Earth will recoup its $130 million production cost. More on that in the Alt Film Guide.
