LA Times: #South Asian American Journalism Pioneer Leaving Columbia University. @SAJAHQ, @AAJA, @AAJAMales

Sreenivasan, SreeThe co-founder of the South Asian Journalists Association and a faculty member of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism since 1993 is joining the staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Sree Sreenivasan will become the museum’s first chief digital officer. He will be charged with creating content for the museum online and in the art galleries.

Appropriately, Sreenivasan announced his appointment on Twitter. “So excited to join @MetMuseum, but so sad to leave @Columbia, my home for 21 yrs. Both such classy places.”

He was SAJA’s first president and continues to serve on the board.  He became Dean of Students at Columbia’s Journalism school in 2005, named Dean of Student Affairs in 2008 and the University’s first Chief Digital Officer in 2012.

He has also reported on technology issues for WABC and WNBC in New York and helped to launch DNAInfo.com, a hyperlocal New York news site in 2009.
