South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley today recalled the day when she was abused as a child by a child care provider, according to Greenville OnLine.
Haley told her story during a news conference where state health officials discussed a new report “Silent Tears” which calls for quicker resolution of child abuse cases.
“It doesn’t matter your background, it doesn’t matter your education, it doesn’t matter the wealth of your family,” Haley said. “Every child is subject to child abuse. And it was a day-care provider that was taking care of me.”
“One day I came home and I had a lot of bruises and a lot of issues,” Haley said.
Her parents who are immigrants from Punjab, India confronted the couple caring for her and immediately pulled her from their care.
Charges were never filed.
“When it happened to me, my parents didn’t know what to do. They didn’t know who to go to. No one knew how to handle it.”
