Janice Gin, the number two person in KTVU’s newsroom for 13 years, turned in her keys and packed up her bags just days before the embarrassing mishap at the station that lead to the reporting of offensive fake names as the pilots of Asiana Flight 214, reports the International Business Times.
Many have speculated the mishap would have never happened had someone sensitive to racist humor seen the script.
Gin’s last day was scheduled for July 12, the day of the gaffe, but she told IBT she actually left a few days earlier.
“I was not there on Friday and don’t have any comment on what happened.” she said.
Gin has served for years as a board of director of the Radio and Television Digital News Association and has long advocated for more minorities in news management.
She has served an interim news director at KTVU, but has never been permanently promoted to the top position at the station.
Lee Rosenthal was named news director on April 1st at KTVU to replace Ed Chapuis, who was replaced after ten years at KTVU.

Te-Yee Jonathan Eng via Facebook RE: Highest ranking Asian Am at KTVU: I suspect it's just bad timing and coincidence. Still if someone was less concern about getting a scoop and took a second and had a few brain cells the whole "Sum Ting Wong" BS wouldn't happen.
