Huffington Post: Polls Finds Support for a Path for Citizenship

CATEGORIES

Statue of LibertyThe Huffington Post  reports that a pattern has emerged. Poll after poll has found support for a pathway to citizenship for those in the United States without documentation.

A poll released in April from the Associated Press and GfK found 63 percent of those polled support it and only 34 percent oppose. The results were nearly identical to the same poll in January indicating that public opinion has stabilized.

An NBC Wall Street Journal poll that supports increases for citizenship when you attach conditions such as requiring the new citizen to pay a fines and back taxes.

Support also increases when you tell those surveyed the plan also includes increased border security by 20,000 border agents and improved fencing. But that same support decreases when you mention the increased security will cost $46 billion.

There is no break out in any of these polls of how Asian Americans, Hispanics and African Americans feel about these issues, The Presidential election showed much greater support for President Obama among voters of color than white voters. It might have been informative to see if a similar divide exists on this issue.

But this lack of information shouldn’t be a surprise, especially when it comes to Asian Americans. A closer look by AsAmNews found this same lack of information has not changed much in the last decade and hope that this could change in the near future are dim.
