The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that three producers have been fired at KTVU in Oakland following the airing of the offensively incorrect Asiana pilot names, reports SF Gate.
Unnamed station sources cited by Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross confirmed that investigative producer Roland DeWolk, special projects producer Cristina Gastelu and producer Brad Belstock have all been let go after an internal investigation.
A fourth producer, noon producer Elvin Sledge, told colleagues he was leaving for health reasons.
The announcement of the firings was made during a newsroom meeting Wednesday called by news director Lee Rosenthal.
You can read about reaction to the firings at KTVU along with comments from a long time reporter who left the station two years ago in SF Gate.
From Julia Jung-Ames via Facebook RE: KTVU firings: They'll never get hired in the Bay Area, that's for sure!
From Alexander Cortez via Facebook RE: KTVU firings: ….well, they left Tori Campbell alone.
From Darrell Lee via Facebook RE: KTVU firings: She's the brainless mouthpiece. The blame rightfully lies with the producers who cleared that farce to go on the air.
From Charlie Chan via Facebook RE: KTVU Firings: I still want to know who is the culprit that did this!!! That imbecile should have the guts to come out and apologize with remorse.
From Gary Kong via Facebook RE: KTVU firings: We should remain vigilant. Sometimes an organization will terminate, with fanfare, an employee for PR value and later, when the dust has settled, quietly rehire them.
From Harrick Lum via Facebook RE: KTVU Firings: I agree with Gary Kong. 100%, lets not stop,, get to the end of it
From Judy Wing Lee via Facebook RE: KTVU firings: Good!
From Robt Lowe via Facebook RE: KTVU firings: Finally, heads did roll!
From Harrick Lum via Facebook RE: KTVU Firings: Its not enough if you just read the statement by the news director in this article,, they are suing or asking Youtube to remove this video saying that we, Asians dont want any more damage but is it really? or is it they who don't want their mistake to be shown over and over again?
