Fear that the law may change making it more difficult to sponsor your family to immigrate to the United States, Asian Americans are being urged to apply for family visas now, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The version of the immigration bill passed by the Senate would eliminate the right for families to sponsor green cards for siblings or married adult children.
The House is considering a similar proposal that would do away with sibling visas.
“We’re saying file now, if you’re thinking about it,” said Stewart Kwoh, president and executive director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles. “Then you’ll be in line if a bill passes and diminishes the ability to file.”
The group plans to host a family visa clinic next week.
