25-year old actress and former Disney star Brenda Song explains it away as a generational difference, according to Entertainment Weekly
The actress who starred in the Disney Channel’s Suite Life of Zach and Cody is now starring in the critically lambasted new fall comedy on Fox, Dads.
Many critics have faulted the show for its many jokes at the expense of women and minorities.
In the pilot episode, Song’s character is at the center of most of those jokes.
She’s asked to wear a sexy school girl outfit and giggle to try to woo the business of an Asian client.
“Coming from The Disney Channel, anything I do is going to offend somehow, somewhere, somehow,” says Song about her character. “She’s a go-getter, she loves her job and will do anything she has to … I love being on a show where the envelope is always pushed… If you can’t laugh at yourself, you can’t laugh at all.”
Song says she makes fun of herself all the time.
“I know so many people who joke about themselves, we’re just doing it on TV. For me for my generation, I grew up watching The Family Guy and The Simpsons …I get to do what I’ve been dreaming about since I was 7 years old. I can’t complain.”
