USA Today: Scammers Exploit Foreign Workers Trying to Cut through Visa Backlog

CATEGORIES

Recruiters are especially common in the high tech industry here in the U.S. and among those looking for management positions in the corporate world.

It’s no different for foreign workers trying to come to the United State legally and are seeking highly sought after work visas.

Unfortunately, according the USA Today, not all foreign labor recruiters are on the up and up.

One man from India convinced his father to sell some of his farmland and pay the recruiter $40,000 to help him find both a high paid job and a visa.

The recruiter was never seen again after he received his money.

The immigration reform bill passed by the Senate would require that foreign labor recruiters register with the U.S. government.

“Current law has not caught up to the realities of international hiring,” said Naomi Tsu, a senior staff attorney at the Southern Poverty Law Center.

You can read more about how some of these scammers operate in countries like India and China in USA Today.
