Did you know Asian American women who dress up in sexy school girl outfits and giggle to impress men is a symbol of an “empowered young woman”?
It is if you ask the COO of Fox.
The network is refusing to reshoot scenes from the pilot episode of its new sitcom Dads despite being widely panned as racially offensive by both Asian American groups and television critics, reports the Atlantic Wire.
In a letter from Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly and COO Joe Earley, Fox writes that the character portrayed by Brenda Song “is a strong, intelligent, empowered young woman who basically runs the company, and who almost always gets the upper hand on the guys.”
They also say the shows use of the term “oriental” and jokes poking fun of the penises of Asian American men “will be evocative and will poke fun at stereotypes and bigotries – sometimes through over-the-top, ridiculous situations.”
The letter is addressed to MANAA, the Media Action Network of Asian Americans.
