The South Asian American community is intensifying its efforts to stop what it considers discriminatory and unconstitutional surveillance operations by the New York Police Department, reports The Express Tribune.
A lawsuit was recently filed by Muslim Advocates, a non-profit group on behalf of eight Muslim Americans.
The case “Hasan v. City of New York” seeks a court order to stop the practice and to wipe out records obtained through such methods.
According to the Associate Press, those tactics include labeling mosques, schools, and restaurants as centers for terrorists activity and conducting surveillance on Muslim Americans who attend those “centers.”
Also recently, the group Desis Rising Up and Moving have conducted campaigns to educate the public about what’s been happening.
