A bill awaiting California Governor Jerry Brown’s signature would mandate that California school’s teach the contributions of Filipino Americans to the farm labor movement, reports GMA.
The bill was sponsored by Assemblyman Rob Bonta, the first Filipino American ever elected to the California State Assembly.
Among those contributions is that of Larry Itliong. He was one of the leaders of the Delano Grape Strike of 1965 which directly lead to the creation of the United Farm Workers.
A two day pilgrimage was recently held to remember that historic moment in the Filipino American community. You can read more about the pilgrimage in GMA.
