Actor Nicholas Cage gave a shout out to Asian male actors during an interview with Chinese state broadcaster, CCTV, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
Cage just returned from shooting in China for his upcoming film Outcast with co-star Hayden Christensen and British director Nick Powell.
“I hope that we will see more Chinese actors in American cinema too. We do see Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi and Chow Yun Fat, but it’s very rare to see the Chinese male actor in Hollywood movies, which is something I take great umbrage with. You know, my son is Asian. He may want to direct one day; he may want to be an actor like his father — and I want that to be open to him. So I want to make some kind of effort to see more of that happen in Hollywood.”
Cage is married to Korean American Alice Kim and has an eight-year old son. He says he would like to see his son have the opportunity to direct or act if that is something he desires.
You can read more about Cage’s thoughts about John Woo, Bruce Lee and Tony Leung in the Hollywood Reporter and watch the entire interview with CCTV.
