The 20 year search to find a location for a new Indian cultural center has come to an end, reports the South Asia Mail.
The government of India has brought a property in Washington, D.C. for $5.7 million.
“I wasn’t going to leave town without making sure it was done — and it’s a done deal,” said Indian Ambassador to the United States Nirupama Rao said. Rao is leaving her post and will be replaced tomorrow by S Jaishankar. “ I would count it as one of my major achievements.”
Rao sees the building not only as a culture center, but a think tank of new ideas and concepts.
