Radio and television legend Art Linkletter used to say “kids say the darndest things.”
Quite a few Asian Americans will tell you “people say the stupidest things.”
Most of the time no harm is meant, but if people would only stop and think about it, they’d realize the statements and questions they sometimes direct toward Asian Americans include faulty assumptions that stereotype Asians Americans as un-American or foreigners.
Questions like “Where are you from. No Where are you really from?” because you couldn’t possibly be born in California or “Do you speak English.”
Those are some of the obvious ones.
What are some things as an Asian American that tick you off.
