The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) supports President Obama’s nomination of Dr. Vivek Murthy as United States surgeon general, reports NW Asian Weekly.
President Obama nominated Dr. Murthy last month.
According to Congressman Mike Honda, Dr. Murthy’s nomination gives the Asian-Pacific Islander American community greater political representation.
“Dr. Murthy’s nomination strengthens the AAPI community’s voice and presence, and marks a positive step toward addressing the need for greater diversity in all levels of government. As a physician, educator, and innovator, Dr. Murthy’s wealth of knowledge on public health issues will ensure his success in his new role.”
Dr. Murthy is Co-Founder and President of Doctors for America, a group of 15,000 doctors who support Obamacare. If confirmed, he will be the first American of Indian descent to serve as U.S. surgeon general.
