ESPN reports that JR Celski has qualified for his second short track speed skating event for the Sochi Winter Olympics while NBC reports that 31-year old Julie Chu will be the only member of the US Women’s Hockey team to be born before 1985.
Chu is also the only member of her team to compete in both the 2002 and 2006 Olympics.
The average age of the team is 23-years old, so Chu is clearly the veteran of the team.
Celski is a Filipino American competing in his second Olympics. With Apolo Ohno retired, Celski could emerge as the big name for the US Olympic team in short track speed skating.
He will compete in both the 500 meters and 1500 with teammate and friend Eddy Alvarez, the first Cuban American to make the US speed skating team.
You can read more about Chu and Celski on ESPN and NBC.
