If you grew up in the 60s and the 70s, you couldn’t help but watch one of Run Run Shaw’s movies.
The Hong Kong movie mogul died today at the age of 106, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
He is credited with popularizing the kung fu movie genre in the United States.
Shaw founded Shaw Brothers Studios which became Hong Kong’s biggest producer of movies.
He helped launched the career of director John Woo and his television network TVB (Television Broadcasts LTD) is credited with giving a boost to the careers of Maggie Cheung, Andy Lau and Chow Yun-fat.
Shaw is said to also have greatly influenced Quentin Tarantino.
In 1973, Five Fingers of Death, set US and European box office records and set off a kung fu craze that would later give us such stars as Bruce Lee.
