Texas Governor Rick Perry on Monday swore in Nadita Berry as the new Secretary of State, reports OA Online.
She is the first Indian American to hold the office.
It is one of six appointed positions to form the Executive Department of Texas.
Berry will be the chief election’s officer for Texas and serve as the liaison on border and Mexican affairs.
“I am honored to serve the people of Texas, and this is my way of saying thank you to the state that has given me so much,” Berry said. “Texas truly is a land of opportunity.”
