Justin Lin, the Asian American director responsible for the “Fast and Furious” franchise and upcoming “Bourne 5”, has just signed on to direct a remake of Jet Li’s 1982 debut film “The Shaolin Temple”.
The kung fu classic follows the story of a lowly slave worker as he trains with shaolin monks and rises up to kill the emperor of the Tang dynasty, who killed his father and also brutally took control of the throne.
The film is set to be in 3D and command a massive budget of more than $100 million. And, to grab the attention of the growing Eastern market, the movie will be made in Mandarin.
A release date for the project has yet to be announced.

RE: Justin Lin to do remake of Shaolin Temple: Would be better for Justin or any other APA filmmaker to make a movie about Wong Ark Kim or Wong Chin Foo, but I guess it may not in Hollywood’s eye, be a money maker. It would however instill lots of pride & history among APA kids in the lower grade schools. For those who don’t know the two Wongs, just google their names and past it on.
