The first tenured track Hmong American studies professor in the country has been hired at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, reports the Chronicle of Higher Education
Yang Sao Xiang will conduct field work in the area to study contemporary social issues among Hmong Americans.
Xiang earned his phD at the University of California, Los Angeles, last year in sociology.
It is hoped that in the future an entire program dedicated to Hmong American studies will be established on campus.
