Long time fans of Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy will remember her first love interest, Preston Burke.
Burke hasn’t appeared on the show since the actor who portrayed Burke, Isaiah Washington, was fired for making homophobic remarks in season 3.
Now Blallywood reports that Washington will be coming back, for one episode only, to bring closure to his relationship with Yang, as played by Sandra Oh.
With Oh having already announced this will be her last season with Grey’s Anatomy, executive producer Shondra Rhimes thought it was essential to bring the Burke character back one final time.
“It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should. Burke is vital to that journey — he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.”
