California State Attorney General Kamala Harris has announced her engagement to Los Angeles attorney Douglas Emhoff, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
Harris is a rising political star in the Democratic party and has been mentioned as a possible future candidate for Governor.
She is the daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican American father.
Harris said her fiancee dropped to one knee in her San Francisco apartment to propose.
The two met on a date set up by friends. No date has been set, but Harris said she did not believe in long engagements.
