Bridgeport, CT came to honor their hometown hero Sunday on Julie Chu Day.
The four time Olympian from the US Women’s Hockey Team signed autographs and took pictures with hundreds of fans, reports the Connecticut Post.
“She’s an inspiration,” Audrey Choi,12, said. Like Chu, Choi plays youth hockey at the Wonderland of Ice Rink.
“This is my home, always,” Chu said to the crowd. “This is the rink where it all began. This is where I learned to love hockey.”
Chu received the key to both the city and the rink and was called a role model by the town’s mayor, Bill Finch.
Months after the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Chu is still processing it all.
