A 20-year-old man appeared in court Wednesday charged in the brutal fatal beating of a 68-year-old Chinese man in New York.
Jamie Pugh was arrested Tuesday in the killing of Wen Hui Ruan.
The Daily News is reporting Ruan’s family is pushing for hate crime charges which could lead to life without parole for Pugh.
“Our whole family is in severe and deep pain,” said Michelle Ruan, the victim’s daughter.
A surveillance video shows Ruan being thrown against a wall in a seemingly unprovoked attack, and then being savagely kicked.
