Two shows with Asian Americans playing prominent roles have made Yahoo‘s list of top 11 most anticipated news television shows of the season.
First up is Scorpion which will be both directed and executive produced by Fast & Furious and Better Luck Tomorrow’s Justin Lin.
Yahoo describes the show this way:
“A group of misfit brainiacs are recruited as a think tank for Homeland Security to defend America against high-tech threats — could easily devolve into a nerd orgy. But the pilot for the show packs in enough riveting action, and humbling moments for the eggheads in question, to appeal to more than just armchair members of MENSA.”
At least two Asian actors will be regulars on the show including Jadyn Wong and Asian Brit Elyes Gabel. Scorpion will air on CBS at 9pm Monday beginning September 22. It will be up against some tough reality show competition including Dancing with the Stars and The Voice.
Also making the top 11 list is Fresh Off the Boat.
Yahoo describes FOB as a “very likable comedy with a “lot going for it, including the best ’90s hip-hop soundtrack of any pilot ever.”
The show is loosely based on the life of celebrity chef Eddie Huang as played by 11-year old Hudson Yang.
“He becomes obsessed with the then-edgy music of Nas and Snoop Dogg, and his taste turns out to be not so much outside the mainstream as ahead of it. “Fresh Off the Boat” shows that you don’t have to be normal to fit in, and that nothing works out like anyone expects.”
Unfortunately FOB has been held by ABC as a mid-season replacement and does not yet have a time slot.
