Michelle Wie has won the first ever Rolex Annika Major Award given to the best overall champion from a US major this year, reports the Golf Channel.
“That was one of the biggest goals I had for this year. I really wanted to win it,” Wie said about the award. “I worked really hard to get this award and I’m extremely proud of myself.”
Wie won it because she won the U.S. Women’s Open and also placed second at the Kraft Nabisco. Wie still won despite playing in only two majors this year. Injury forced her out of both the Evian Championship and the Wegman’s LPGA Championship due to a finger injury.
The award is named for Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam. You can read more of Wie’s comments in the Golf Channel and she her accept the award on the LPGA website.
