A Chicago-area mother accused in the murder of her 10-year special needs child has committed suicide and her husband has been murdered, reports WMAQ.
Prosecutors in January charged Pallavi Dhawan with murder in the death of her son who was found dead in a bathtub with bags of ice. Dhawan claimed her innocence and said her son Arnav died of natural causes due to a cyst in his brain. The medical examiner never conclusively determined the cause of death, but said natural disease was the most likely factor.
An autopsy report determined Pallavi died last month of a combination of drowning and lethal drugs. Her husband Sumeet Dhawan died from blunt trauma to the head and toxicity. Police refused to label the deaths of Pallavi and Sumeet as a murder suicide.
