NY Daily News: Asian American Officer Indicted in Brooklyn Fatal Shooting

Black Lives MatterNew York rookie police officer Peter Liang has been indicted by a grand jury in the fatal shooting of an unarmed Brooklyn man in an unlit stairwell, reports the Daily News (photo by Jamie NYC)

Liang faces 15 years in prison for second degree manslaughter of Akai Gurley, 28. The indictment was applauded by the victim’s family, but condemned by the police officer’s association.

Liang was holding a gun in one hand and a flashlight in the other when he opened the door to the stairwell and the gun went off.

DA Kenneth Thompson had obtained three indictments against police officers in two incidents in recent months.

Grand juries, however, have declined two indict officers in the highly publicized deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

How does this case against Liang compare to the cases against the officers in the Garner and Brown deaths?

You can read more about that in the Daily News.
