Ki Hong Lee has people talking.
The actor named the fourth sexiest man alive by People Magazine in 2014 recently talked to KPop Starz about his role as Dong in the Netflix hit Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and his part as Minho in The Maze Runner.
“As an actor, you have to ground yourself in whatever character you are playing and make it into your own reality. In my mind, Minho is just as real as Dong. They are both characters that exist in my world. It just so happens that ‘The Maze Runner’ is set in the future.”
Dong pursues his love interest Kimmy in Unbreakable while dealing with his undocumented status as a Vietnamese deliveryman. The irony of a man named Dong playing an Asian romantic leading man has some Asian Americans cheering, while others condemn his character for being another accented Asian stereotype.
Lee doesn’t say much about the controversy in his interview, and at least outwardly, isn’t concerned about his next project. There’s still no word on whether Dong will return for Season 2.
“My next project will really have to be my marriage. I got married recently, so I am just focusing on that before diving back into work.”
