Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus (ALC) joined the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in suing the US government for abandoning its citizens in Yemen, reports MINA.
It’s estimated 4,000 American citizens in Yemen are stranded there after the US Embassy was evacuated, leaving no American personnel behind to assist stranded American citizens.
Most of those left behind are of Yemeni origin.
“As American Yemenis, we’re all really sad about what’s going on,” said Mohammed Alazzani, 27, whose cousin was killed in an airstrike in Yemen. “They just don’t believe it, that their government isn’t doing anything. Some of them are starting to say, ‘They don’t consider us real Americans. We’re second-class.’”
An air strike in Yemen this morning killed at least seven people, but the death toll could be as high as several dozen, reported Reuters. An alliance of Sunni Arab countries Iran-allied has been battling with the Shi’ite Houthi group and army units loyal to ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh (pictured).
The State Department says the situation is too dangerous to carry out an evacuation of remaining private citizens.
