Several hundred people gathered outside Los Angeles City Hall to witness history in Los Angeles’ large Korean American community, reports CBS LA.
David Ryu became the first Korean American ever to be sworn in to the Los Angeles City Council.
He’s just the second Asian American to serve on the council despite LA’s large Asian American population.
Ryu was truly moved by the occasion.
He slowly walked down the steps of City Hall with his elderly father in his arms.
“I’m just very grateful for this opportunity.” said Ryu. I’m speechless, loss of word. The real work starts now.”
You can watch the celebration below in the clip from CBS LA.
