Filipino American journalist and community activist Jose Antonio Vargas recently embarked on a public campaign urging undocumented immigrants to be open about their legal status.
According to ABS CBN News, Vargas’ campaign, titled Coming Out, seeks to encourage undocumented immigrants to “normalize” the immigrant experience and add their own narrative to the American one.
“I’m coming out now because the person that’s me can’t be defined by a piece of paper,” one immigrant said in a promotional video about the campaign.
