With many students already back to school, this story is timely.
It’s easy especially on large campuses to feel isolated.
Finding your comfortable space in everyday life can be difficult, but it can be especially difficult for students living away from home for perhaps the first time.
The Daily Penn reports on the popularity of niche organizations.
When a larger student organization doesn’t completely speak to you, you can start your own niche group.
That’s what happened at the University of Pennsylvania LGBTQ Center. Asian Americans didn’t feel totally accepted in that group
“We felt the Queer People of Color group didn’t really cater to the Asian population, in that there weren’t that many Asians involved,” college senior and Penn Q&A Co-Founder Victoria Chen said. They started a niche group for Asian Americans.
Other campuses have contacted Penn for advice on starting niche groups.
